Thinking of cheap days out for the family this summer? Why not check out the breath-taking Kilmartin House Museum in Argyll.

Just eight miles from Lochgilphead, this beautiful place is home to precious artifacts and is positively steeped in history.

This year, the museum will be celebrating its 10th anniversary and have launched an appeal to raised funds to pay off the museum’s development loan. In just a few weeks, the museum had raised its target after an anonymous benefactor kindly doubled every donation made.

With more than 350 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius of Kilmartin, this village and surrounding area is a historical gold mine with lots to learn and many interesting monuments to visit.

An archeological excavation in 2005 found 4,000 year old pots exhumed from graves in Upper Largie, near Kilmartin. The pots revealed a fascinating historical link between the west coast of Scotland and the Netherlands during the Copper Age. The find also uncovered links with Ireland and Yorkshire during the early Bornze Age.

Inside the center, visitors can view the audio/visual creation “ The Valley of the Ghosts” a haunting time-travelling experience with fantastic imagery set to take visitors back hundreds of years through pictures and sound.

The decade-old museum, is an award winning world-class center for archaeology and landscape interpretation, established to protect, investigate and interpret this precious site.

Visitors can browse round the onsite shop and enjoy refreshments at the museum’s award-winning café.
