What is Loch Lomond Shores?

Donna: It's the gateway to our first national park and also houses cafes and restaurants. Impressive doesn't come close to describing it.

Drumkinnon Tower at night Peter: Its location on the south of the loch lets you look look right up the loch - it is quite stunning.

What was there to see and do?

Peter: There is entertainment from street shows to films. Drumkinnon Tower also houses a gift shop, viewing towers, cafe and restaurant.

What is Drumkinnon Tower?

Peter: It's the focal point of Loch Lomond Shores and has been designed as a modern day castle. From the tower you can see boats and jet-skiers, as well as Balloch Castle and Cameron House Hotel.

Are there internal viewing areas in case of bad weather?

Peter: Yes, there are sheltered viewing platforms and indoor areas so you can still enjoy the views without getting soaked.

Is fun at Loch Lomond Shores weather dependent?

Peter: No, there's more than enough to do indoors, with films, interactive displays, restaurants and an animatronics show.

Donna: There's so much more to do than admire the scenery. There's also a children's play area. We were there for seven hours and didn't get everything done.

Animatronics - what's that?

Peter: It's a blend of animation and electronic puppetry and the show, Beneath The Loch, explores the history of Loch Lomond through the eyes of an otter who travels through time. The children loved this almost as much as I enjoyed the Legend Of The Loch film.

That sounds interesting ...

Peter: It is shown on an IMAX screen which has a phenomenal sound system. The kids were spellbound - as were the adults.

What is it all about?

Donna: It is inspired by the song Loch Lomond which tells the tale of a girl who falls in love with a boy who lives on the opposite side of the loch. He goes to fight for the Jacobite army but never returns and she wanders the loch looking for him.

I was in tears because it was so moving and beautifully told.

What other activities are there?

Donna: There is hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and loch cruises.
